Winter Season is coming and it’s important to not only look good, but to feel comfortable and warm. I refer to layering as an art because it takes a lot more than to just put on a coat, to make an outfit work – and make it completely functional for yourself. To begin the process of layering you have to start with the basics; a shirt/t-shirt and any trousers or denim. The important parts come after, the sweaters, blazers, scarves, coats, socks, gloves, appropriate footwear and other winter accessories. For this post we will be looking at the most versatile sweaters & outerwear for layering and will come back to the smaller details later.
Materials
Before we look at the different types of sweaters and the perks of each style, we need to talk about the most important element of layering in fall/winter - the materials. There are many options for sweaters - and blend of each sweater is determined on the price-point. There are only 3 types of materials that I would recommend for the fall/winter seasons; cotton, wool & cashmere. These fabrics are warm and breathable - however, feel free to purchase blended fabrics.
Sweater Styles
There are many different types of sweaters but each style can pose a different function. For example, a fair-isle crew-neck can make a plain outfit more interesting, a cardigan can replace a blazer, a v-neck under a blazer can vamp up any suit. My personal favourite would be the crew-neck or v-neck because they are the easiest to dress up and dress down.
